Home-gardens are increasingly recognized as ecosystems for in situ conservation of agro-biodiversity in Kerala. Women’s work saves biodiversity, as they play primary roles as land and resource managers. Women currently account for 60 to 80 percent of all food production in developing countries. This monograph seeks to explore the participation of women in home-garden management activities, to study the agro biodiversity among the selected home gardens of Kannara, Kerala, India and their classification according to functional use. Twenty one percentage of tree species were classified under trees which yield fruits and nuts, 18% were ornamental plants, 14% under timber and wood, 10% vegetable yielding, 7% as spice yielding, 9% medicinal , 9 % religious important, 7% of multipurpose trees and 5% as staple food.
