Interest in calix[4] resorcinarenes has grown rapidly also because of the numerous derivatization that can be created through relatively simple synthetic procedures. Substitution on the calix[4]resorcinarenes alters their properties and application.The introduction of chelating group such as hydroxamic acid on calix[4] resorcinarenes may further enhance the complexing ability for a large number of metal ions including transition metal and rare earth elements.With this in view, four new calix[4]resorcinarene-hydroxamic acids by substitution at the phenolic hydroxy groups have been synthesized.
