Because, studies on urbanization and urban growth in Ethiopia are generally confined to major cities like Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Naziret and others ignoring the situation of smaller but still very important towns, mainly in the North-western Ethiopia. Bullen town is such an urban area which has important historical, socioeconomic, political and institutional progresses and problems. However, the town has been marginalized and has been out of the scope of several research works so far conducted in Ethiopia. With this consideration, this project was aimed at assessing the historical development of the town, problems it faced and development options it has.
