The recognition of Sexual Minority Rights in Uganda is still very contentious. The sexual minority rights issue in Uganda is essentially a head on confrontation between culture, religion and human rights. Last year, the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2009 was almost passed by the 8th Ugandan Parliament but later shelved because of international pressure. A section of the Ugandan population is still calling upon the government of Uganda to speedily enact the so called Bahati Bill without any further delay. The catholic and Anglican churches have withdrawn their support for the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2009. The Evangelicals have however vehemently continued to support the Bahati bill.
