Code-switching is a bilingual phenomenon characterized by the simultaneous use of two languages in one discourse. Studies have shown that language choice is governed by both linguistic and social factors. Using multi-variate analysis, the study examined the relationship of both linguistic and social factors to the code-switching behaviors of two communities in the southwestern United States; Antonito, Colorado and the Phoenix Metropolitan Area in Arizona.
