World’s wetlands cover about six percentage of total global land area. Nepal’s wetlands cover about five percentage of Nepal’s land area. Illam is rich in wetlands with around 40 wetlands which aren't explored till yet. Panchthar contains 18 wetlands with extra ordinary view of lakes. In the same way Taplejung is rich in three valuable lakes having different importance.Despite of immense ecological, biological, social, religious, cultural and economic values, the wetlands continued to be degraded, lost and overexploited. They have not received adequate attention they ought to have. So, the aim should be to address these gaps and issues to effect long term changes to the perception, values and understanding so that wetlands receive adequate attention from all.
