Many polymers are widely used for sliding couples against metals, polymers and other materials. However, where the contact is there, there is the problem of friction and wear. The friction between polymers can be attributed to two main mechanisms, deformation and adhesion. The deformation mechanism involves complete dissipation of energy in the contact area while the adhesion component is responsible for the friction of polymer and is a result of breaking of weak bonding forces between polymer chains in the bulk of the material.
