This work investigates the smart grid application in India for rural/remote electrification and its economic benefits. A field trip was organised to an unelectrified village in India to understand the socio-economic conditions and the role of smart electrification. This work proposes a microgrid concept for the rural electrification and multi-agent system as a control mechanism.
