The present development in the field of electronics is in pursuit of identifying materials that can be used as an alternative to silicon in the futuristic electronic circuits. In order to translate this desire to reality it is predicted that one may be able to construct single molecules that could each function as a self-contained electronic device. Molecular electronics is conceptually different from conventional solid state semiconductor electronics.
