The concept of satellite solar power station (SSPS) is to convert the solar energy to microwaves with the help of photovoltaic arrays and microwave generators in the satellite located in either geostationary orbit or low earth orbit, transmission of microwave from space to ground station, conversion of microwave power to D.C. power at ground station with the help of rectifying antenna (rectenna) for public use. The analysis of SSPS is carried out for some specified locations in India and consequently the performance of the system is evaluated for geostationary earth orbit (GEO) based SSPS and low earth orbit (LEO) based SSPS for sites located at different latitudes. Microwave transmission loss is another important factor which affects the overall performance of the microwave based SSPS system.
