With the advent of microprocessors of enormous processing power and powerful software, digitization is turning out to be a valuable tool in a measurement system, making the conventional instruments obsolete, due to their lower performance and longer learning curve. The content of this book comes as a whiff of fresh air and provides an insight into digitization technique in ultrasonic instrumentation, implemented in a pulse-echo technique, generating ultrasonic waves in the range 1 to 10 MHz. An in-house designed digitizer module, using a low cost and slower analog-to-digital converter is found to be effective in acquisition of signals using synchronous digital delay under software control, developed in C at the back-end. Displaying results using suitable control panel has been developed in Visual Basic.
