A major area of interest in integrated CAD/CAM is in the design and manufacture of sculptured surfaces. Sculptured surfaces have free form and nonanalytical contours. For this reason, the manufacture of sculptured surfaces has always presented difficulties to manufacturing engineers. This work describes general methods of automatic reconstruction of surfaces from their 3D data sets.
