Mechanization is particularly advantageous in minimizing labour demand, enhance timeliness, increases production and productivity etc. The reduction in the yield due to weed alone is estimated about 30-60 per cent and one third of the cost of cultivation is being spent for weeding alone. Weeding problems are facing farmers everywhere. Development of self propelled walking type weeder may contribute to fulfill the mechanization gap to do the weeding operation at the faster rate. In this book an attempt has been made to provide information on methodology followed for design principles, development and optimization of operational parameters and performance evaluation of self propelled weeder.
