This book is based on a comprehensive survey that was conducted in the City of Pretoria, South Africa to identify key predictors of efficiency in the management of solid waste produced by 1, 034 commercial businesses operating in Pretoria. Efficiency in the management of solid waste was measured based on a structural time-based model. Data analyses were performed by fitting a binary logistic regression model and multilevel analysis. The study showed that 17% of the businesses selected for the study were inefficient with regards to the management of solid waste. The study identified 4 predictors of efficiency in the management of solid waste. These 4 influential predictor variables were lack of adherence to waste management regulations, wrong perception on the value and importance of proper management of waste, failure to provide customers with enough trash cans, and the operation of businesses by non-owners, in a decreasing order of importance.
