BTEX vapors are corrosive and toxic substance and can also pose drinking water hazard as they accumulate in ground water. They often stick together in contaminated site and they are more harmful to human than the non-human living things whereas Benzene alone is a well-known human carcinogen. Prolonged exposure to these compounds has harmful effects on kidney, liver and blood systems.
