The municipal council of Nakuru has; a legislative arm, whose function is policy formulation, and an executive arm, which implements these policies. The implementation of planning policies and strategic structure plan for Nakuru town and its environs is wanting. The objective of this study focuses on; establish the extent to which the municipal council of Nakuru was implementing the building codes and by laws; establish the level of public awareness about the building codes and by laws; examine challenges in implementing the building codes and by laws; and establish the relevance and adherence of the planning policies both environmental and structural as far as building and construction is concerned.
