Mullets form one of the major components of brackish water farming all over the world. Successful and sustainable culture of mullet depends on use of nutritionally balanced low cost ecofriendly feeds. Protein is the most important and expansive ingredient; its inclusion from various sources should follow a careful assessment of the nutritive quality. The price of fish meal has increased sharply. Oil cakes are good sources of protein for fish feed which are available on a large scale as by-product of edible oil industry e.g.groundnut, soyabean, sunflower, coconut, linseed and mustard cakes.
