 The prime requirement of aquaculture practice is the production of readily acceptable nutritionally balanced,cheap and nonpolluting feed in order to realize maximum survival and optimum growth of fish and shrimps.The brine shrimp,Artemia is the most suitable and desirable live feed in aquaculture hatcheries and grow-out ponds.One of the major advantages of using Artemia as live feed in aquaculture is availability of Artemia in the form of dry cysts which can be stored for long time and hatched easily whenever required. The demand for good quality Artemia cysts is greater than the present global production.It has been recorded that wild population of Artemia occurs in many salt pans but for want of technical knowhow, the Artemia either in the form of cysts or biomass could not be trapped.The saltpans can be used for mass scale production of Artemia of properly managed.
