Since last six decades, luminescent materials find application in day to day life e.g. in fluorescent lamps television, pickup receivers, light emitting diode, particle radiation detectors and medical sciences. Inorganic crystalline solid phosphors have various uses in industry. The II-VI compounds have long been known and used as efficient electro photo and cathodoluminescent materials. No other class of material displays such variety of luminescent centres capable of producing radiation ranging from IR to UV. During recent years this class of material is used in solid state and opto-electronic devices and particularly as screens in televisions radars and other display devices.
