Food insecurity results from reduced agricultural production and reduced purchasing power due to financial impoverishment. These two are characteristics of communities with high HIV/AIDS prevalence, especially among the active age-group of 15-49 years. Food insecurity is therefore likely to occur in households affected directly as a result. This book gives a detailed report of a research done to establish the effects of HIV/AIDS in an agricultural community in Kenya. 32.1% of the respondent households were found to be directly affected by HIV/AIDS. This meant they were nursing a person living with HIV/AIDS, had lost a family member to HIV/AIDS, or were fostering a AIDS orphans.
