Rice polishings is rich source of the protein, carbohydrates and vitamins with better nutrients density and amino acids profile as compared to cereal grains. Due to presence of 13-15% good quality oil in it many solvent extraction plants have come up to extract rice polishings oil as food or industrial oil. So a huge quantity of defatted rice polishings (DRP) is available as poultry feed ingredient. Its full nutritional potential cannot be utilized due to association of some anti-nutritive factors like phytates, trypsin inhibitor, hemoagglutins-lectin and adulteration of crude fiber during rice milling process. A series of studies were conducted to disassociate the toxic factors by chemical i.e. 0.4N HCl, 0.2N NaOH, 6% H2O2 and 0.1 % Kemzyme HF?as well as physical treatments like extrusion cooking to enhance the nutritive value of defatted rice polishings for its higher level of inclusion in broiler feed.
