The expression of soybean ferritin gene with an endosperm-specific promoter to an elite indica rice cultivar BR29 resulted higher iron accumulation in the seeds with better agronomic performance. The rice lines with enhanced iron content developed by genetic engineering may contribute to solve the iron deficiency nutritional problem of the population that consumes rice as a staple food.
