 Forest is a living complex, so is the mankind. Contribution of forest to mankind is innumerable. Forest based products alone, apart from Timber, forms the major source of livelihood. It is the second best contributor to the livelihood kitty of tribal and non-tribal living in and around the forest. The management, conservation and sustainable use of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) had drawn attentions of administrative machineries of state and central government since 1948. There are many players involved in the entire process and many laws formed and amended from time-to-time. PRIs in India are empowered for management of NTFPs under the PESA Act. This document is thoroughly reflecting the role of Private Market, and Government Policies for NTFP management and disposal. The socio-economic and geographic condition of tribal and its influence on sale of NTFPs to earn livelihood is thoroughly presented.
