The performances of two blackgram (Vigna mungo L) varieties were evaluated under various levels of nitrogen fertilization. The accumulation of dry matter in different organs maximized at 80 kg N ha-1. In contrast, light transmission ratio (LTR) was decreased while light interception (LI) increased with the increasing nitrogen levels. A best-fit positive linear relationship was detected between leaf chlorophyll and leaf nitrogen content with different nitrogen levels. Unexpectedly accumulation of N, P and K in two varieties was not differed significantly. The uptake of N, P and K increased up to 60 kg N ha-1 then decreased with increasing nitrogen levels. Among the varieties BARI mash 3 showed better performances than BINA mash 1 regarding most of the characters. The longest plant was measured with 100 kg N ha-1 whereas largest leaf area was detected at 80 kg N ha-1.
