The women self-help group (SHG) movement by several non-government organizations (NGOs) has emerged in the early nineties as a powerful instrument for the socio-economic transformation of poor women. The micro enterprises in Animal Husbandry sector especially, goat farming as a micro enterprise has special advantage for women since the management of goats is comparatively less labour and input intensive. In this context, it is imperative to look into the aspects as, ‘Do the members of the women SHGs in goat farming feel empowered in matters relating to themselves as well as the community? What are the entire opportunities do they avail in the empowerment process? What are all the threats faced by them?
