The family Lamiaceae has cosmopolitan distribution and includes over 250 genera and 7000 species. The family is known for its fine ornamental or culinary herbs like basil, lavender, mint, oregano, rosemary, sage and thyme, and is a rich source of essential oils for the flavoring and perfume industry.
