The international scene brought to light the environmental problem with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1992. Then, the third Conference of the Parties agreed to establish a new Protocol: the Kyoto Protocol. Its objective is the stabilization of atmospheric concentrations of GHG at a level that would prevent dangerous interference with the climate system. The Protocol introduced mechanisms which can be used by a country which anticipates an excess on the ceiling of permitted emissions. : it caps its carbon emissions at a certain level and then permits firms and industries the right to emit a stated amount of carbon dioxide over a time period. Firms are then free to trade these credits in a free market. The objective of this research is to examine how the Kyoto Protocol can be modified to efficiently tackle global warming.
