This research mainly focuses on the participation process and community needs. The main objective is to “use public participatory GIS as a state-of-the-art tool in involving the community in the decision making of an urban development process in order to sustain this process.” Although PPGIS system seems to be a very promising technology, several obstacles could withdraw this process in Egypt such as lack of IT knowledge to most of the citizens, the complexity of the urban tissue in several urban areas, and the miscommunication between decision makers and the community.
