There is increased emphasis on the impact on environmental quality due to continuous use of chemical fertilizers. The integrated nutrient management system is an alternative and is characterized by reduced input of chemical fertilizers and combined use of chemical fertilizers with organic materials such as animal manures, crop residues, green manure and composts. The nature and the characteristics of nutrient release of chemical and organic are different, and each type of fertilizer has its advantages and disadvantages with regard to crop growth and soil fertility.
