This book expounds on assessing the environmental impact of government sponsored resettlement schemes in Ethiopia, particularly focusing on its impact on the vegetation of Anger Gutin area. Remote sensing, socio-economic and ground vegetation survey methods were used to collect the relevant data, and extensive literature was also reviewed to support the study. The result indicated that significant land use/cover change and vegetation lose occurred in the area over the 35 years considered mainly as a consequence of resettlement schemes undertaken in the area at different periods. The output indicates that the area is under serious problem of environmental degradation, which calls for immediate attention from all concerned bodies. Preparing and implementing appropriate land use and management plan focusing on the needs of the local people and the sustainability of the environment is found to be crucial.
