The problem of HAT and animal reservoirs of human infective trypanosomes is introduced followed by a review of various aspects of African Trypanosomiasis. The trypanosome infection rates including mixed infections in selected domestic animals are presented. The detection of human infective (T. b. gambiense and T. b. rhodesiense) trypanosomes in domestic animal blood samples using specific polymerase chain reaction is described. Tsetse host feeding preferences based on blood meal analysis are stated.
