Unlike the Monarchical period, there is incontrovertible discrimination on the basis of religion and race in Myanmar society. The dawn of Christianity in the country was the disintegrating point in the Buddhist history. There exist theocracies where one religion is given preferential treatment and is the central feature of political life.
