Описание
The horrific policies of apartheid severely limited opportunities for non-white athletes in South Africa. The transformation policies currently in use in South African sport aim, we are told, at rectifying the wrongs of the past. But the vast majority of these policies seem, at first glance, to make use of the idea of racial preference popularized during apartheid - albeit in reverse. Should an athlete''s skin colour count in his favour (or for that matter, against him) when selecting a sports team? The quota selection policy used in South African sport means that this question is answered in the affirmative. Addressing both justice-based and consequentialist justifications for quotas, this book takes a long-overdue look at the philosophical underpinnings of arguments in favour of racially preferential selection policies in sport.
