Growing demand for water due to increasing populations, industrialisation and water consuming lifestyles puts stress on existing water supply systems. To cater for the rising demand, water distribution networks are expanded beyond their design capacities and this creates transient low pressures and free surface conditions in the networks. Traditional water supply models use a demand-driven approach methodology which is not able to simulate these conditions and this poses an impediment to analysis and management of intermittent flow networks. This book utilises a head-driven approach to determine what supply is enabled by particular nodal pressures and also analyses coexistence and conversion of free surface to pressurised flow. This culminates in the development of a decision support system that can guide decisions for improved network performance.
