The age adjusted incidence of epilepsy is 44 per 100,000 person years. Each year, about 125,000, new epilepsy causes occurs; of these 30% are in people younger than age 18 yrs at the time of diagnosis. There is distribution in the first seizure; the high frequency of epilepsy in the elderly is now being recognized.
