Oral cancer is a global problem & many patients with oral cancer present late and have a resulting poor prognosis. Late detection makes more radical treatment necessary, leading to increased morbidity. By contrast, early diagnosis and treatment is associated with a good outcome, with a 5-year survival rate up to 90%, when lesions are less than 2cm. in size. The disease satisfies the criteria of screening and Mouth Self Examination(MSE) may be a successful method of encouraging early presentation.MSE was found to be feasible and participants are confident in checking there mouth, but they are not able to differentiate between normal and mucosal changes. Further knowledge of the oral mucosal lesion is therefore required for individuals to differentiate between normal anatomical land marks and pathological lesions.Therefore this book, Oral cancer screening is an important step towards prevention.
