This book deals with protection of personal data in sub-Saharan Africa. Its central aim is to cast light on perception of privacy and regulation in the sub-region taking into account the culture, political set up, as well as economies of the African states. Illumination of these matters transcend into three sets of closely related issues. The first set is whether a concept or value to privacy exists in sub-Saharan Africa. This issue is particularly significant because in the absence of the value that supports the existence of privacy laws, efforts to enact such laws are likely to remain of little or no significance. The second issue is to what extent privacy is regulated in the sub-region.
