Increasing the proportion of births supervised by Skilled Birth Attendants is an internationally agreed goal. However, available data indicate that little progress has been made in Sub-Sahara Africa. Though there is over 80 percent coverage of antenatal attendance in Ghana, there is pervasive maternal service utilization, yet, the underlying factors are poorly understood. Evidence-based data are therefore needed to inform policy formulation and the design of practical solutions to address the existing challenges particularly at the district and community levels. This book therefore, provides scientific evidence that explains the role individual factors play in influencing access and utilization of supervised delivery services in a typical district in Ghana.
