Parts-of-speech occur across languages. There are part-of-speech classes that language theory has been operating with ever since. However, as linguistic research extends to cover more languages some of the classes lose their credibility. As a result there is considerable cross-linguistic variation with respect to the universality of the existing classes. Current literature shows that words can be grouped into part-of-speech classes according to semantic, syntactic and morphological criteria. This book describes the part-of-speech classes in Kisa, as determined by the morphological criteria. Kisa is a Bantu language spoken in Western Kenya. The analysis shows that Kisa has three principal parts of speech categories (verbs, nominals and particles) divided into fourteen part of speech classes.The findings should be useful to university students and professionals in Linguistics, especially those interested in Bantu languages, or any other person interested in Bantu languages and...
