The mitigation of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the education system is essential if a country is to attain the EFA and the MDGs. Education systems are already sagging with high enrolments, lack of teachers; inadequate resources for infrustracture and capacity development. The impact of HIV/AIDS in terms of teacher mobidity and motality; absentism; increased number of orphans and the added need of care and support is impacting negatively on access, retention, completion and transition rates as well as the quality of education.
