The research scholarship granted by the Turkish Government for scientific research gave me the opportunity to spend a period of 8 months by the Department of Sociology of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. Starting from October 2006 and finishing at the middle of July 2007 I used the scholarship mainly in order to write my master thesis about innovation and local development in Turkey, with special regard to partnerships between local university and enterprises. Especially, being in Turkey, I had the opportunity to interview some local stakeholders from the main national institutions, such as TUBITAK, KOSGEB, DPT, Chamber of Industry which are dealing with innovation related issues and which promote policies for Science and Technology, as well as some professors and managers from the scientific institutions namely Middle East Technical University (METU), METU - Techno park and METU - Incubator.
