My point of departure in this research project is the various experiences and learning attained during my study as a student, teacher as well as a member of Ugandan society. For the time I was a student and a teacher in both secondary and vocational schools, I learnt much regarding teaching and learning. This exposure empowered me to understand the nature of teaching and learning in most Ugandan institutions which reflects a teacher as a sole source of knowledge imparted to the learners who must cram,memorise and reproduce it in examinations.Through a number of studies,I have realised that the nature of teaching and learning that carpentry students in Uganda are subjected to cannot make them competent in their vocations.
