It presents the concept of network family to handle network connectivity which provides a means to define spatial linear relationship and manage directed network. The model of network family is designed and encoded using the open standard of XML technology. Several geospatial open standards are used to demonstrate the application of using network family model to facilitate network analysis on-the-fly from heterogeneous data sources through HTTP protocols. Scenario tests include the road network in Cambridge city and the rail transport network in London.
