It has been proposed that evolutionary strategies may provide alternative programming paradigms for finding solutions to problems of polynomial or NP-complete complexity. As a demonstration of how some of these techniques may be implemented, an application incorporating a genetic algorithm is developed with the goal of finding an aesthetically pleasing layout for an entity relationship diagram.
