It has many faces changing from place to place. The issues of rural poverty are difficult to comprehend without thorough examination of various aspects of poverty. The study in hand was undertaken to find out poverty status both in relative and absolute terms and to assess the impact of various factors on poverty status of household in rural Pakistan. This study used the basic needs approach under the absolute and relative poverty scenario, in the light of axiomatic framework, five poverty indices were estimated to check the probability of households being poor under the distribution of income and expenditures.
