The executing agency for the Lower Bari Doab Canal Improvement Project (LBDCIP) is the Punjab Irrigation and Power Department (PIPD). The LBDCIP is being financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Punjab (GOP). The investment components LBDCIP includes(i) Rehabilitation and Upgrading of the Balloki Barrage including appurtenant structures of Head Regulators for LBDC and B-S link canal (ii) Rehabilitation and Upgrading of LBDC canal system. The maximum carrying capacity of the canal at present is 8,600 cusecs. The operators are unable to run the channel to its authorized discharge even when adequate supplies are available in river Ravi at Balloki Barrage.
