The vision of IMT-2000 (3G) is to provide users with the ability to communicate anywhere, at any time, with anyone. The Radio communications sector to the ITU (ITU-R) Task Group 8/1 meeting in Helsinki approved a comprehensive set of terrestrial radio interface specifications for IMT 2000. These different interfaces have been approved due to the need to meet differing evolution/migration requirements from incumbent 2G systems in individual regions.
