This is a call on all architects and those involved in the building industry to take responsibility for changing the impact that their buildings have on the environment. They may live for a few decades after their design and subsequent construction, however, the structures will stand for centuries at a time where energy prices, availability and resources are not predicted and might cost a fortune. It is time to take responsibility for our actions in order to minimise environmental deterioration. Our ancestors exploited global resources sustainably. Now it is our turn to take steps to provide a world for future generations which is not enviromentally degraded. Knowledge, solutions and techniques are all there in the vernacular architecture, yet they need to be rediscovered and accompanied with the available technologies in order to produce an environmentally conscious modern architecture.
