Enzymology sets forth the basic principles and outlines the major contemporary developments in the science of the enzymes, information on which has snowballed recently. Enzymology is a science studying all aspects of the enzymes (soluble globular proteins with catalytic properties, the protein catalysts of the cell), including their distribution, synthesis, classification, structure, properties, the mechanisms of their functioning and various applications. Enzymology was originally a branch of biochemistry but now it has ramifications such as clinical (medical) enzymology, soil enzymology, cryoenzymology, engineering enzymology, mycelar enzymology, metal enzymology, etc. The wide application of enzymes has led to their production on a large scale. It is assumed that the enzymes produced globally after 1990 are worth over $5 billion.
