 This monography presents results of 35-year research on ecological-physiological mechanisms of autoregulation of water quality, biodiversity, homeostasis of hydrobiosystems of various organization levels (from subcellular to ecosystem) with participation of higher aquatic macrohytes. Polyfunctional role of aquatic macrophytes in hydroecosystems, methods and results of investigation at auto- and synecological levels of organization of aquatic biota are discussed. The main attention is paid to a general mechanism of relative resistance of hydroecosystems (on the example of Kuibyshev reservoir – from Cheboksary hydroelectric station to Togliatti city) realizing via particular mechanisms of homeostasis maintenance of hydrobiosystems of lower organization levels – biocenotic, population, organismal.
